September is here, friends! I always associate September with school starting back up, the impending arrival of autumn, and getting back into routines and rhythms (and wedding season!). How did your August go? I shared all that we were up to in August yesterday, and I also loved reviewing my August goals, which I happily crossed most everything off the list last month! We had fun trips to the mountains of North Carolina with lots of our couple friends, as well as a weekend in the sunshine at Carolina Beach. It was a productive yet relaxing and fun month before the craziness of the fall wedding season arrives, and I tried to use my time in August wisely. It’s also our five month wedding anniversary today, which always coincides perfectly with the renewal of each month!!
As you’re reading this, I’m busy finishing packing for our back-to-back trips to NYC to visit my sister and brother-in-law (and go to the US Open!), and then we’re heading straight to the Outer Banks for the rest of the week! You can follow along on our family vacation over on Instagram, if you’d like to. And once we return… wedding season is most definitely in full swing with so much goodness on the radar. Here’s to our last big hurrah of Summer 2017!
Enjoy every moment of our vacation week in NYC + OBX! Savor loads of quality time with our families, enjoy the juxtaposing settings of the city + the beach, and relax as much as possible.
Create (and share) a Fall 2017 to-do list.
Celebrate Rob’s birthday with great excitement and love him well. I have a surprise or two up my sleeves!
Finish planning and go on our anniversary getaway to one of my very favorite destinations! Our one year engagement anniversary and six month wedding anniversary are the same day, and we plan on celebrating this wholeheartedly.
Serve selflessly and joyfully at our church and with the child development center at the Raleigh Rescue Mission.
Decorate our first married home for fall and think of some small but fun ways to celebrate the season!
Leave my phone in another room when we’re home at night.
Enjoy the slightly cooler weather by eating dinners at home outside, going on regular evening walks, and playing tennis.
Love on and serve one of our married/young parent friends well by baby-sitting so they can go on a date night! This is something we really want to do much more often.
Make the full switch over to my new website! It is quite the process changing everyyyything over to Stephanie Shaul Events.
Share SO much more of our wedding!! This both personal + business… and oh so very exciting!
Celebrate and serve my couples well in their season of engagement.
Plan ahead as much as possible for my Fall 2017 weddings so that I set myself up well for October and November.
Book two new 2018 weddings.
How can I encourage you in your goals or cheer you on? What are you most excited for in the coming month? I’m still loving summertime, and I can’t wait to spend a long week in NYC and the Outer Banks before returning to work!!
I think most everyone loves the month of October, and I’m no exception, either! It’s such a fun and festive month, and there’s so much to look forward to! Where to begin with a recap of September… it was SUCH a good month!!!! It was my first full month living in Raleigh, and I feel so settled and just plain happy. As I sit here thinking about the last month, a cheesy smile comes to my face, and I’m filled with so much gratitude and joy.
I kicked off the month with an incredibly fun vacation in NYC with my sister & brother in law, saw so many friends from college here in town, met tons of new people that I felt so instantly connected with, working hard on my business and several exciting opportunities (!!!), found a church I love, joined a book club, joined a few new groups, cooked and baked and ran and read lots, pulled off an incredible styled shoot, visiting with the Southern Weddings ladies, filled my calendar for the coming months, hosted people in my new home, met John and Sherry of Young House Love at their book signing… and I’m sure I’m leaving out plenty of fun. I miss seeing my friends in DC, but I have to say… I truly feel like I am where I’m meant to be right now. Thank you, Lord.
Cross things off my fall bucket list (does anyone have a favorite local apple picking spot?!)
Host my parents for a weekend (so grateful for a guest room and living closer to them! And we’ll attempt the Bluegrass Festival, dependent on the rain.)
Host a fabulous, special baby shower for one of my college roommates
Hire an accountant + bookkeeper – we have a meeting soon!
Continue learning the ropes of 17 Hats and use it well to serve my business
Continue connecting with other wedding professionals and creatives in the area (I can’t even begin to tell you how many incredible people I’ve met/spent time with the last month! It’s been so, so amazing and affirming!!)
Finalize client gifts for my couples
Become a preferred vendor at a couple more places/businesses (This is so exciting! I’m grateful the Carolina Inn reached out to me about this already and brought me on board!!)
Work on LLC things for my business
I think those are plenty of goals to work on for now! I’m incredibly thankful to have a couple different groups of similarly-minded women/groups of friends to share goals, praises, questions, struggles, and business accountability with. We’re so much better working together, aren’t we? I feel so supported, encouraged, and blessed by the community around me.
What are your goals for October? I’d love to see what’s on your radar and how you’re setting yourself up to make what matters happen!
I think with every passing month I always want to stop and wonder where the year has gone! September, with the slightest hint of autumn in the air and that back to school feeling, always seems like a month of refresh. I have long loved them month of September, and I’m very much looking forward to all that this month holds.
August turned out to be an interesting month. I loved my week in Charleston for The School of Styling + a mini vacation, so that kicked off the month on a great note! And then I moved to Raleigh, y’all! So that’s super exciting, and I’m thrilled to be back home in North Carolina. I definitely miss my friends in DC and the city itself, but I’m also embracing all that the Triangle has to offer! The biggest downside to August, and it was a doozy, was the actual move itself. I’ll save that miserable saga for another day, but going twelve unexpected days without any of my things (bed, clothes, everything.) was not easy. But through it all, I also felt SO loved and cared for by countless kind people – friends, family, new friends, and even strangers. More on that another time. Suffice it to say, I’m ecstatic that my things have arrived and I feel like I can really settle in and dig deep. August felt like a month filled with transitions and waiting (not my forte!), and I am thankful for so many good moments and loving people!
Travel to NYC to visit my sister and brother-in-law (aka two of my favorite people on the planet!) AND go to the US Open!!
Explore Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill so much more: find new running and biking trails, check out fun events and activities, try new restaurants (you can bet I have a running list!)
Find a church home (hopefully!) and get connected
Join a tennis league (or at least find people to play with regularly)
Get outside as much as possible: pool, tennis, running, biking, meals outside, walks with friends
Cook often and buy fresh ingredients
Find a Farmer’s Market and stock up on seasonal produce
Host a dinner party (who wants to join?!)
Read at least four books
Finish decorating my new home (and possibly have it photographed/featured?) – y’all, I love it!!!
Explore 17 Hats more & decide if it’s a good fit for my business
Bring an intern/assistant on board, potentially
Book weddings for 2016
Read one new business book (I’d love your suggestions!)
Settle into a work routine during my work days and have a solid morning routine to get my day started off on the right foot
Connect with other creatives and wedding professionals in the area (so excited about a few opportunities to do this!!)
Decide on client gifts and refine the SSE client experience
Connect, connect, connect!
Now that September is here and this past weekend’s wedding is wrapped up, I’m excited to dive in and make this month fruitful, productive, and intentional. I would love to cheer you on, too – link up to your goals, if you’d like!! And… what’s the one thing you’re most excited for in September? I know many are excited that autumn is on its ways!
