My Home Office Updates

With the start of the new year, it was time for a small refresh of my home office! I’ve worked from home for almost six years now (and in our current house since we moved in June of 2018), so working from home is nothing new for me. I’m also really grateful for a dedicated room of my own for my home office – and a room and dedicated closet with plenty of storage for all of my wedding, styling, and hosting/entertaining/celebration decor and props!

Now that I’m on video calls more than ever, I really wanted to update the rather plain and boring wall behind my desk, since that wall gets the spotlight so often these days – ha! I also wanted to keep the updates pretty simple and inexpensive with just a few small additions. My office gets such incredible sunlight all day long, thankfully, and the big window overlooks our backyard and the lake. I love, love, love this view, and as much as a different layout in my home office would logistically work really well, I very firmly want to keep my desk directly in front of the window so that I can look out and enjoy the view all day long – it’s that beautiful and peaceful. I also get to see ducks, geese, our lake’s heron, birds, and so much more wildlife all day long, and I can’t imagine not looking out at this view for 8 hours a day!

Anyway, I decided to frame three colorful, very “me” photos: one from our favorite NC beach spot, one of Springtime blooms on a really special day, and one colorful bouquet from a favorite wedding in 11×14 dusty French blue frames that I found for such an incredible price! The colors and photos themselves make me very happy and are a pretty backdrop on that large white wall. I also adore that I found dusty blue frames, my signature color, and that I didn’t have to paint any frames to achieve the look I wanted. The blue pops so beautifully against the white wall and the white couch underneath the trio of frames.

I also added in some warmth and texture with a round rattan mirror (also such an amazing price, and with free shipping) and a gorgeous feminine rug in my favorite color palette from a favorite designer. Last year, I added in four of these blue and white floral cubes for much better storage (game changer! and the most perfect design ever), as well as blue and white buffalo check curtains, since the sun can be rather blinding at times. When I updated my office this month, I wanted to be sure to let the sunlight and my favorite colors really shine and then added greenery touches (faux and real), natural rattan pieces, beautiful and functional storage, picture frames, and personalized touches of my favorite items to make it feel even more fresh and inspired.

I’ve never quite gotten around to hanging this large wooden Bible verse that we used in our engagement photos (seen here! and such a treasure), and I’m pretty good with it propped on the floor right here! These blue and white floral cubes hold so many wedding and styling props, paper goods, cards and envelopes, calligraphy supplies, etc, and the blue boxes above them hold copious amounts of ribbons and vintage stamps and little details and props. I have my beloved Southern Weddings Magazines, print copies of magazines where my work has been published, my celebration binder and my wedding planning binder, and so many special items stored on these shelves. It’s inspiring and sentimental to me, all at once!

PS: you can see our full home tour here, which showcase the updates I’ve made to my office since then! And don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions about where anything is from; I’d be happy to share.

Have you switched up any decor in your home recently or made any bigger renovations? What’s next to tackle on your to-do list? I’d love to hear what you’re eyeing and what you’re up to!
