Bride Spotlight: Katie D

Happy wedding week to Katie and Alex!! Hooray! Their wedding week is officially here, and I am incredibly excited for Katie and Alex to be married and to celebrate with their wedding in mere days! Katie and Alex have been so much fun to work with this year, and they are both so thoughtful, intentional, and generous in countless ways. You can also just see how smitten they are with one another, and their love is so vivid and beautiful! Their ceremony is going to be such a special, personalized, faith-filled, and joyous time that reflects who they are as a couple, their hearts and faith, and God’s abundant, unconditional love for all of us. I already know there are going to be so many happy tears and big smiles as Katie and Alex become husband and wife & celebrate with all of their family and friends!

I am so, so excited about the wedding design and all of the beauty that will come to life for them this weekend! With a color palette of various shades of dusty blue, blush and mauve, greens, white, a variety of neutrals, a touch of black, and pops of wine, Katie and Alex’s wedding is perfect for early fall and filled with rich autumnal textures, accents of organic greenery and complementary figs, and gold details. Their wedding has ample romantic candlelight, timeless elegance, a bevy of personalized and meaningful details and moments, and will be polished, fresh, and fun! We’re also working with so many of my very favorite creative partners and vendors for their wedding, so you know it’s going to be gorgeous and memorable. There are some sweet, fun touches in store for Katie and Alex’s wedding guests!

I know it’s going to be an incredibly joyful, meaningful, and truly memorable first day of marriage as Katie and Alex are married and celebrated by their loved ones! It has been such an honor and joy to be a part of their wedding planning process and to get to know them throughout their engagement. These two are incredibly genuine, thoughtful, dedicated, passionate, loving people who clearly bring out the best in one another. It’s such a long-awaited occasion to celebrate with their beloved family and friends and to kick off married life for them in such a special, heartfelt, memorable, and meaningful way. Katie and Alex, your wedding week is finally here, and I hope you feel nothing but an abundance of love, excitement, and joy as you two are married and are celebrated with such profound joy and excitement! You were clearly made for one another, and your love is so inspiring.

I’m so excited to share Katie’s bride spotlight with you today, where you can learn more about the two of them, their love story, and what they’re most excited about on their wedding day and for their wedding! Their love simply radiates in their engagement session by the truly wonderful Kelsey Nelson Photography — swoon!

Tell us about you and your fiancé, Alex, and more about your love story.

I’m from Raleigh (actually from Raleigh – seems to be a rare thing!) and Alex grew up in Greensboro. He is the third of four children and all of his siblings live in the Triangle area. We are actually the third Edmiston wedding in the last year and a half! I have one younger sister who lives in Raleigh. Alex went to NC State and I went to UNC and we are both big sports fans – we are definitely a house divided!
We met about two and a half years ago when I joined a church small group that Alex was leading! We were just friends for the first 5 months until I started to realize I hoped he would show up to things and that I may like him more than just a friend! Alex felt the same way and we went on our first date in August of 2019 and the rest is history!
Alex proposed on January 16th at Pullen Park after sending me on a scavenger hunt around Raleigh to special and meaningful places to us!

What are you most excited for about your wedding day? Do you have a moment of your wedding day that you’re most anticipating?

We choose to not do a first look, so I’m really excited for the specific moment where I’m walking down the aisle to Alex. I’m also really excited about dancing with all our people at the reception – when all the details are over and we are just having fun!

What was your biggest inspiration for your wedding design?

I honestly didn’t come into the wedding planning process with wedding vision. I knew a few things I wanted and the general color scheme I liked, but Stephanie was my biggest inspiration as I figured out a wedding design.

Are you doing a first look or saving it for walking down the aisle?

Saving it for walking down the aisle!

What’s your favorite way to relax and/or have fun?

I love watching and playing sports, but I also love binge watching a good tv show!

What is something you’re passionate about? What are some things you and Alex love to do together?

We’re both passionate about our faith in Christ and that is part of the reason we met. I really love kids and have been working in church nurseries since I was 11. I’m pretty involved in Summit kids at the Blue Ridge campus and Alex also volunteers in kids which has been really fun! Alex and I both love playing sports and watching them as well. We also love doing things with our friend group like grilling out or having a game night.

What has been the biggest surprise in the wedding planning process?

I knew I needed to stay on top of things – and Stephanie has been great in helping me with that – but there are so many details that I had never even thought of before.

What is your favorite part of your wedding design?

All of it?! But I’m really excited to see the reception space!

What is your favorite thing about Alex?

I honestly don’t know how to pick a favorite! He is such an amazing guy – it’s hard to narrow it down. I really love being with him and we love doing the same things. Some of my favorite characteristics of Alex are his steadfastness and the way he makes me feel so cared for. He is also incredibly loyal, which is really important to me! I’m so excited to spend the rest of my life with him!

Stayed tuned this weekend for lots of sneak peeks of Katie and Alex’s wedding on my Instagram! I already can’t wait to see it all come to life for them as we celebrate this joyous, gorgeous day for one extraordinary couple!
