Getting to know my brides and becoming not only their planner but their friend is one of the most special parts of my job! I really and truly get to work with the best couples ever; I’m convinced of that! Learning about the bride and groom as individuals and as a unit is so fun, and it is always so helpful to be able to know them more in depth in order to make their day perfect for them. I have the greatest, happiest job in the world!
You, as readers, normally only have the pleasure of witnessing the surface level of my weddings and couples. I always try to share some of their story and who my couples are, but this new series will really kick it up a notch! The flowers, the dress, the photographs, and the details are all gorgeous and important, of course, but a huge part of the big day is the bride and groom as a couple. Love stories are the best, and marriage is what my business is about. So, guess what?! Two of my special brides took the time out to answer a quick Q+A about who they are, their wedding design, and what inspires them. Let’s meet these fabulous ladies, both of whom are tying the knot this October!
First up is Savannah Lagaly! This blonde beauty is an NC native who loves all things Disney. She can’t wait to say “I do” to Alex in just a couple weeks in downtown Raleigh at the All Saints Chapel and Virginia Dare Ballroom!
The next featured bride is Kellie Dale, who is also an North Carolina native. Kelly and her fiance Alex will be tying the knot on October 22 at the Merrimon Wynne (my wedding venue!), and she could not be more excited! Her day will be timeless and classic, just like her.
Now that you’ve met our brides it’s time to learn all about them, their fiances and their wedding!
1. Tell us a little bit about you and your fiance! Where you’re from, your jobs, where you live, how you met, funny/quirky things about your relationship, what you like to do together etc.
Savannah: Alex and I met in 2013 through mutual friends. I grew up in Cary and he grew up in Wakefield. I went to UNC Chapel Hill and he went to NC State. I am a Human Resources Generalist for Parks Hospitality Group, and he is a Design Engineer for Flowserve, and he designs and builds valves for nuclear power plants. We love to travel together, and got accustomed to exploring new areas when I graduated college and took a job in the NYC area working in HR for Vineyard Vines. We did long distance for a year and a half, and would visit each other or often meet in the middle in DC. Even though I moved back and we live in the same city now, we still love to travel and experience new things in addition to setting our routine as a same-city couple! We also both LOVE sports, and some of our favorite memories together are attending sporting events of our favorite teams. Things we bonded over when we met (and still do!) include love of spicy foods, sports, and laughing. We’ve been together for 4 years.
Kellie: Alex and I met in middle school, actually. We are both from Raleigh and both attended North Raleigh Christian Academy. We started dating when I was 14 and he was 16 (I thought he was so cool because he had his driver’s license!!) Our wedding is the weekend of our 8 year anniversary. We went UNCW for college and both received degrees in Business (Alex in Finance and me in Marketing). We bought our first home together and are living and working in Raleigh. We love Raleigh and definitely want to be here long term 🙂 Alex works as a financial adviser and I work in the healthcare IT industry in sales. We have a fur baby… our dog is a pitbull/shar pei mix (funny looking with lots of wrinkles). His name is Jackson and he keeps us very busy. We love to spend time with him outside. But also love to spend time with our families. Something unique about our relationship is that we pretty much grew up dating each other. So our families hang out all together a lot, which we love!!
2. What are you most excited for about your wedding day?
Savannah: I am most excited to see him as I come down the aisle! I cannot wait to see his face and know that it’s my last walk as a single woman. Secondly, I am so pumped to spend the day getting glam with my favorite girls on earth. All my friends are so special to me and having them all with me as I prepare to become a wife gets me SO excited!
Kellie: We are serving communion to our guests (a recommendation from Stephanie!!). I am excited for this to be the first thing we do as a married couple and for us to have a brief second 1:1 with every single guest.
3. What was your biggest inspiration for your wedding design?
Savannah: Cinderella and Disney. I am a HUGE Disney fan (we are spending my bachelorette party in Walt Disney World, my favorite place). Since I was little, I’ve always loved the idea of finding a prince and living happily ever after, and as I’ve gotten older, my idea and definition of what that means has matured. My wedding decor and theme stems from the ballroom scene in Cinderella. I love the elegance, beauty, and class of a true ball. It is just magical.
Kellie: I think the venue itself, Merrimon Wynne, inspired our design. I want the day to be classic, timeless, and elegant, just like the house.
4. Are you doing a first look or saving it for walking down the aisle?
Savannah: We are saving it! I have been looking forward to the moment I walk down the Alex since I knew he was the one. I think saving it for the aisle will be so special for us.
Kellie: We are saving it for the aisle. I am so excited to see Alex’s reaction and hope to have it captured in the pictures. I do think I will do a first look with my dad and with my bridesmaids though.
5. Describe your style in one word.
Savannah: Regal
Kellie: Classic
6. What’s your favorite way to relax and unwind?
Savannah: Take out and Netflix on the couch with Alex will cure any stress I have. Also, working out and good wine. 😉
Kellie: The perfect way to relax and unwind is with a good glass of wine with our friends and families.
7. What is something you’re passionate about?
Savannah: Disney, fashion/shopping, Alex & my family, deep talks that really make you use your brain (I always loved Rhetoric), exercise, and being there for my friends.
Kellie: I asked Alex to answer this question and he said “does BBQ chicken pizza count?”
That gives you a taste of his sense of humor! 🙂
I hope you all enjoyed getting to know my fabulous October brides a little more! It is certainly so special to get to see a little more into their lives before you get to see their gorgeous weddings in the upcoming months. Stay tuned for so much more as we wrap up planning and bring their wedding days to life!
