“If the home is a body, the table is the heart,
the beating center, the sustainer of life and health.”
Shauna Niequist, Bread and Wine
Gathering with friends or family around the dinner table is one of those things that makes my heart sing, and we’re trying to make a point to do it often. We want our home to be a place of welcome; a place of warmth; a place of community. Deep, endless conversations, delicious food and drinks, lots of laughter, and a joyful place of gathering… there’s nothing better!
It took me about five minutes to set the table, which means you can, too! Don’t be intimidated by the need to create the perfect tablescape… you can use what you have, get creative with items from around the house, mix and match pieces, and really let those fresh flowers shine.
Here, I used a cluster of fresh peonies, in a range of white, blush, and magenta, as the center stage, and I even placed a peony on top of the salad plate to make the place setting pop even more. I used my great-grandmother’s white and gold wedding china mixed with adorable white salad plates from Crate and Barrel, gold flatware, a navy linen tablecloth, a cheesecloth runner, wine glasses, blush taper candles in gold candlesticks, boxwood topiaries, and the lush peony centerpiece. These white metal chairs pop perfectly against the navy linen, and voila! Easy, festive, and perfect for an early summer dinner.
