This is my sixth cherry blossom season living in Washington, DC, and somehow, each year gets better and better. Maybe it was the long winter, or maybe it’s seeing the blooms with fresh eyes, but this year’s cherry blossoms were stunning in their display! Thousands upon thousands of people flock to DC from all over the world to witness the beauty of the cherry blossoms blooming around the city and around the Tidal Basin, and it hits me time and time again that this is my city and my backyard. It’s a magical, unreal display of such natural beauty, and I look forward to witnessing the blooms for many months beforehand!
My friends and I have always done an annual cherry blossom picnic, and it’s one of my favorite activities throughout the year. We always make sure to go after work (the weekends are insanely busy with tourists + I’m out of town every weekend this Spring), when the crowds are a little less chaotic. And going after work gives you the best of it all – sunshine, golden hour, sunset, and twilight. Magical, indeed! If you’re ever in town or free during cherry blossom season, you should definitely pack a picnic, head down towards the Tidal Basin and Jefferson Memorial, bring your camera, and enjoy see God’s glorious design at hand!
This last picture is beyond amazing – and no filter needed! Took my breath away.
