It’s fairly evident that I’m not really a fan of the consumerism and materialism of Black Friday for a myriad of reasons. Now, the other days of the ‘spending week’ (Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday) are something I can get a little more on board with! I do, however, absolutely love Giving Tuesday & am excited to continue participating in this! The concept behind Giving Tuesday, from the Giving Tuesday website, is:
“We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now, we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 2, 2014, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.
It’s a simple idea. Just find a way for your family, your community, your company or your organization to come together to give something more. Then tell everyone you can about how you are giving. Join us and be a part of a global celebration of a new tradition of generosity.”
I simply love this!

Some of my favorite places to donate to for Giving Tuesday are:
- Compassion International
- Everybody Wins! DC
- Make a Wish Foundation
- Habitat for Humanity
- Samaritan’s Purse
- Capital Area Food Bank
- Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America
I would strongly encourage you to participate by donating to one (or more!) of thousands of places that are near and dear to your heart, too. It is, afterall, the season of giving!
