Last Valentine’s Day, I painted these very simple yet very cute and festive heart candles, and I’m still smitten with them a year later! With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I wanted to share this easy craft that brings a smile to my face every time I see them: painted heart taper candles. You can easily paint custom candles for any holiday, of course – I just painted little green Christmas trees on white candles for Christmas!

This craft couldn’t be easier, and you certainly don’t need to be an artist to paint these heart candles. (As much as I wish I had the ability and talent to paint intricate designs on taper candles, that is a skill I don’t currently possess!) And obviously you can get as creative as you wish. You could add in red polka dots, you can paint in any color(s) you wish, you can paint white hearts on colored taper candles… the possibilities are truly endless.

All you need to paint your own Valentine’s Day heart candles:

• white taper candles (or really any color: pink or hot pink or blush or red would be beautiful, too!)
• pink paint (or red paint or white paint)
• a toothpick (for painting the little hearts – I’m sure you could also use a fine tip paintbrush, but I think a toothpick works perfectly for something this small!)

To paint the hearts on your candles, simply dip your toothpick in the paint and then paint little hearts. Since these hearts are so small, it’s really like painting a “V” with the paint. Start from the top of the candle and then paint hearts intermittently all the way around and onward down your candle to your heart’s desire. Let them dry standing upright in a taper candlestick holder for an hour or so, and then enjoy! You can put them on your mantel or a side table, or you can set a beautiful Valentine’s Day (or Galentine’s Day!) table with these easy heart painted candles.
